Call for strike on March 8 accepted with overwhelming majority.Members of Efling accepted a call to strike on March 8 among cleaners in hotels with an overwhelming majority of votes cast. Of 862 votes, 769 agreed to the call for strike, 67 voted against, and 26 turned in a blank ballot. This makes for an 89% vote for the strike.Chair of Efling, Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, said that the result was a great symbol of support in the coming struggle. “The members have spoken. I am sincerely proud of our members, who have now sent a very clear and powerful message with their votes. It was amazing to see the atmosphere in the workplaces where we organized a vote.”The call for strike is now seen as accepted by the members and was turned in to the SA business association and the state mediator on Friday, March 1.The voting registry included 7950 individuals, which means the participation rate was nearly 11%.
