Five Authors read from their recent books
Auður Jónsdóttir reads from her novel Allir fuglar fljúga í ljósið
Björt is a wanderer, however she mostly travels between places in Reykjavík, observes people and records her observations. She rents a room in a shabby house with tenants with a similar life story. She has routine in her life. Everything seems to be fixed – until she meets Ólöf Brá… and receives a letter from her. From that moment on, her life begins to fall apart; her friendship with Vera, her toxic relationship with Steingrímur and Hálfdan – will gradually reveal her dramatic life.
Auður Jónsdóttir has received various awards for her books. Five of them have been nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize. She received the prize for the Fólkið í kjallaranum. The book was also nominated by Iceland for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2006. The book Ósjálfrátt was also nominated for the same prize in 2013. Her books are popular among readers and critics.
Eva Rún Snorradóttir reads from her book Óskilamunir
Óskilamunir is a collection of short stories. Stories about love that is lost and found, the pain that shapes us, everything that is destructible.
Eva Rún is a self-employed stage artist and poet. For years she has worked with the performing art groups such us: Kviss búmm bang and 16elskendur. Eva Rún has published three books of poetry: Heimsendir fylgir þér alla ævi, Tappi á himninum and Fræ sem frjóvga myrkrið – which was published in 2018 and won the poetry award.
Three poets read from the collection of poems Pólífónía af erlendum uppruna
The book features fifteen different poets from nine different countries exploring aspects of their immigrant experiences. Natasha Stolyarova edits the book and is also one of the authors.
Natasha Stolyarova (born in Russia) moved to Iceland in 2012 to study Icelandic at the University of Iceland. She studied media studies in Moscow but turned to literature after coming to Iceland. Natasha writes poetry and prose and translates from Icelandic and English into Russian. She has overseen various literary projects in Iceland related to writers of foreign origin and works as a bookseller in the centre of Reykjavík.
Giti Chandra (born in India) is doing research on the International Gender Equality Studies (GRÓ-GEST) at the University of Iceland. She has published poetry and fiction, e.g., the trilogy The Book of Guardians, she writes and edits books in the field of gender equality studies. She lives, loves, and writes in Reykjavík and aims to read, love and write in Iceland.
A. Rawlings (born in Canada) is an interdisciplinary artist who has published the books: Sound of Mull (2019), Wide Slumber for Lepidopterists (2006), O w n (2015) and Si Tu (2017). She has also written librettos, such as Bodiless (2014) for Gabrielle Herbst and Longitude (2014) for Davíð Brynjar Franzson. She has a doctorate from the University of Glasgow and in the year 2020 to 2021 she worked on postdoctoral research on whales in times of climate change.
