Ólöf – portrait of a union rep

Ólöf Helga Adolfsdóttir has a pilot license and has worked as a baggage handler for Icelandair at Reykjavík Airport for nearly five years. She became union rep in March 2018 and has worked on baggage handlers’ rights since, until she was fired recently.

Ólöf grew up in Hafnarfjörður and is the fifth of 8 siblings. She still lives in Hafnarfjörður with her 15 year old daughter and the dog Whiskey.

Ólöf’s interest in labour issues began early. Her father was an active VR member and had several positions of confidence at the union while she grew up. After Ólöf became a union rep in her workplace, her interest in labour affairs has increased. Today, Ólöf sits boath in the Delegate Council and board of Efling, and is a substitute member of the ASÍ youth board. Father and daughter have plenty to talk about at family gatherings.

Ólöf long played football with Haukar and is interested in aviation, the outdoors, photography, and hunting.
