Form fundarins er samtal þar sem Daníel Örn Arnarson, stjórnarmaður í Eflingu, ræðir við Guðmund Ævar Oddsson félagsfræðing, en Guðmundur hefur rannsakað stéttaskiptingu og stéttavitund á Íslandi.Meðal spurninga sem hugsanlega verða ræddar eru: Hvað þýðir orðið „stétt“ nákvæmlega? Hvaða stéttir fyrirfinnast á Íslandi? Er stéttaskipting óréttlát? Er stéttaskipting náttúrulögmál eða er hægt að breyta henni? Er það rétt að stéttaskipting sé minni á Íslandi en annars staðar? Er hægt að flytja sig milli stétta? Eru Íslendingar meðvitaðir um stéttarstöðu sína? Hefur stéttaskipting breyst á síðustu áratugum? Hvaða áhrif geta verkalýðsfélög haft á stéttaskiptingu? Hvers vegna er talað um stéttabaráttu og stéttavitund? Eru hagsmunir stétta andstæðir eða borgar sig að vera „stétt með stétt“?Streymt verður af fundinum og hann tekinn upp, til að gera þeim kleift að fylgjast með sem ekki eiga heimangengt. Enskri þýðingu á efni fundarins verður varpað skjá jafnóðum.Félagsmenn í Eflingu og allt áhugafólk um samfélagsmál er boðið velkomið á fundinn. Að loknum fundi verður að venju boðið upp á kaffiveitingar. Hægt er að skrá börnin í barnagæslu á bókasafninu í Gerðubergi en nauðsynlegt er að skrá þau fyrirfram – lokað er fyrir skráningu en öllum er frjálst að mæta á fundinn án þess að hafa skráð sig.
In the land of unequal opportunities? Class divisions in Iceland
We are all different, yet we believe we should all have equal opportunities. But are opportunities in fact equal when values are divide unequally between classes?Efling Trade Union invites you to a meeting in Gerðuberg, on Saturday, 22nd September at 2:30 pm, where class divisions in Iceland will be discussed. The meeting will take a form of a debate between Daníel Örn Arnarson, Efling´s board member, and Guðmundur Ævar Oddsson, sociologist researching class divisions and class consciousness in Iceland.The debate will revolve around the following questions:What exactly does the word ´class´ mean? What classes are there in Iceland? Are class divisions unjust? Are class divisions natural or can they be changed? Is it true that the classes are less divided in Iceland than in other countries? Is it possible to move between classes? Are Icelanders conscious of which class they belong to? Have the divisions between classes evolved in the last years? What influence can the trade unions have on the class divisions? Why do we talk about class struggle and class consciousness? Is there a conflict of interests between classes, or can they stand together, side by side?The meeting will be streamed live and recorded, to enable people who cannot attend the meeting to watch from home. A live, on-screen English translation of the meeting’s content will be provided.Members of Efling and everybody that are interested in social issues are welcome to join the meeting.
