Efling trade union will hold its first-ever Efling Congress on 26 and 27 February at Austurbæjarbíó. The Congress is a new and powerful platform where members come together to shape policy and strengthen the struggle for improved pay and workers’ rights.
Over 200 Efling members, from more than 30 different countries of origin, will take part in the congress. They reflect the diverse workforce represented by Efling and play a key role in shaping the union’s shared vision and demands.
The congress aims to strengthen Efling’s voice, deepen discussion on pressing issues, and increase member participation in union activities. The resolutions adopted will set a clear direction for Efling’s campaigns in the coming period, based on the work of the shop stewards’ council and the lived experience of members in the labour market.
The programme spans two days and consists of lectures, discussions, and working sessions, where delegates will develop proposals and resolutions. The opening address will be delivered by Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, President of Efling.
Speakers include Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, and Jónas Atli Gunnarsson, Chief Economist at HMS (Housing and Construction Authority). International guests will also speak on workers’ struggles globally, including Lars Christian Fjeldstad from the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and Anna Bacia, President of a care workers’ union in Poland.
