Autumn and winter
There is high demand for holiday homes during the winter season, especially for those located close to the capital area. They are usually fully booked for weekends about a month in advance, so it is important to book early to secure accommodation for your preferred dates.

Points system and allocations
There are two allocation periods: Easter and summer. The rental period over Easter is one week, from Wednesday to Wednesday. The summer period begins at the end of May/beginning of June and lasts for 13 weeks, during which the houses are rented on a weekly basis either from Friday to Friday or Thursday to Thursday depending on the area.
Information about the application periods and allocations is announced at the beginning of the year through Efling's media channels. Applications must be submitted during the advertised application periods.
Efling's holiday home system manages all allocations. Members accumulate rights in the form of points, and age can also affect the allocation. The number of points is determined by payments made to Efling, but efforts are made to ensure as much equality as possible within the system so that members with lower incomes also have a good chance of being allocated apartments and holiday homes.
The system allocates holiday homes by ranking all applications according to points. Applicants with the most points are placed at the top of the list, followed by those with fewer points. If two applicants have the same number of points, age determines priority, with the older applicant receiving priority. The system then processes all applications and considers each choice individually.
There is only one allocation for all eligible members. This applies to both the summer and Easter allocations. Members' point balances determine the outcome of the allocation.
First come, first served
After the Easter allocation, the booking website opens to all eligible members, who can then book any houses that are still available, as long as members have enough points.
After the summer allocation, the booking website opens in two stages, based on members' point balances, allowing them to book houses that are available at that time:
- First, for three days, to members who have 100 points or more in the system.
- After that, to all eligible members with enough points.
Point collection
A member who pays contributions to Efling accumulates at least 1 holiday point per month, regardless of their employment ratio. A member in full-time employment accumulates 2 to 3 holiday points per month, in accordance with the calculation rules of the Vacation Fund. There is no maximum number of holiday points that a member can accumulate.
Members must have enough holiday points to rent a holiday home. The number of points required varies depending on the season, area and length of stay. Holiday points are deducted for rentals throughout the year.
Please note that holiday points determine priority in allocations and do not replace payment for the rental.
Bookings outside of allocation periods
The winter rental period begins around the end of August/beginning of September. During this period, members can book holiday homes directly without submitting an application, except for the Easter period.
Rental periods are more flexible during the winter, and members can book both weekend and whole week stays.
Bookings for the winter period open in two stages. Around mid-August, bookings open for stays up until Christmas. On the first working day in November, bookings open for stays after the New Year and until the summer period begins. Bookings open on My pages at 8.00 on opening day.
Members can book through My pages or by sending an email to orlof@efling.is.
