The voting on the proposed strike for the members of Efling working for Kópavogur, Seltjarnarnes and other municipalities has concluded. The strike action was approved by an overwhelming majority of votes and voter participation was high. The strike will begin unchanged at noon (12:00) on Tuesday, 5 May.89% voted in favour of a strike in elementary schools and 88% voted in favour of a strike in workplaces other than elementary schools. 6% voted against a strike in both elementary schools and other workplaces, while a similar number chose not to choose an option. A total of 65% of eligible voters cast a vote.The municipalities affected by the strike are Seltjarnarnes, Kópavogur, Mosfellsbær, Hveragerði and Ölfus. The members of Efling who work for these municipalities demand an agreement with comparable benefits as those found in agreements between Efling and the City of Reykjavik and the government of Iceland. No demands beyond this have been made.The Negotiation Committee postponed strike action during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, but announced that the strike would be voted on again after Easter. All members of Efling working for the five munincipalities outlined above will stop work indefinitely on the afternoon of Tuesday, 5 May. This is the same day the gathering ban due to the Coronavirus will be lifted.”These are incredible results. They show amazing courage, the will to fight and the unity of our members.
