Issue no. 9 of Efling’s Economic Analysis (Kjarafréttir) discusses the Icelandic welfare state in comparison with the other Nordic welfare states.
The results show that spending on the welfare state in Iceland is lower than in the other Nordic countries in almost all areas of welfare. In some areas there is a significant difference. This greatly reduces the legitimacy of calling Iceland a “Nordic welfare state”.
