Your rights in the rental market - English

Are you renting a home or would you like to learn more about your rights as a tenant?

This event will cover what you should know before signing a tenancy agreement, what a landlord is allowed to require and where you can seek help if a problem or disagreement arises.

A representative from the Tenants’ Assistance service of the Consumers’ Association of Iceland will discuss:

  • tenancy agreements and what to check before signing,
  • security deposits and the rules on how they must be held,
  • responsibility for maintenance and repairs,
  • rent increases,
  • terminating and ending a tenancy,
  • support and possible solutions when a tenant and landlord disagree.

You will also learn about the Tenants’ Assistance service, how it can help and where to seek advice about housing and tenancy issues. Participants will have an opportunity to ask general questions at the end of the event.

The event will be held in English and is free of charge for Efling members.

Parking is available at Guðrúnartún 1. Efling staff can register your parking through Parka Spons.
