Efling virk í norrænu samstarfi ræstingafólks

Fulltrúar frá Eflingu tóku þátt í samnorrænni ráðstefnu og trúnaðarmannanámskeiði ræstingafólks í byrjun september í Finnlandi. Ráðstefnan var á vegum SUN, bandalags norræna stéttarfélaga sem Efling hefur verið félagi í síðan árið 2024. Þar komu saman um 30 trúnaðarmenn og aðrir fulltrúar stéttarfélaga frá Færeyjum, Svíþjóð, Finnlandi og Noregi auk Íslands.


Dagskrá ráðstefnunnar stóð í tvo heila daga og var hún haldin í Gustavelund, hóteli við Tuusula-vatnið skammt norðan við Helsinki. Dagskráin var sett síðdegis föstudaginn 4. september. Fyrri heili dagur ráðstefnunnar, laugardagurinn 5. september, var helgaður þjálfun og fræðslu um skipulagningu á vinnustað. Kjetil Larsen frá norska stéttarfélaginu Fellesforbundet annaðist þann lið.


Seinni heili dagurinn, sunnudagur, hófst með kynningu á ítarlegri samanburðarkönnun á kjarasamningum ræstingafólks á Norðurlöndum. Efling átti veg og vanda af framkvæmd könnunarinnar og flutti Sunna Björg Gunnarsdóttir starfsmaður Eflingar kynninguna. Miklar umræður spunnust um efnið. Deginum lauk með umfjöllun frá Ewu Edström frá sænska stéttarfélaginu Fastighets um vinnuaðstæður ræstingafólks, sem var fylgt eftir með umræðum og spurningum. Dagskrá var reglulega brotin upp með hópefli og samveru, svo sem róðri um Tuusula vatnið, leikjum og sameiginlegum máltíðum. Dagskrá var slitið með ánægjukönnun og kveðjuorðum að morgni mánudags 7. september.


Flestir þátttakendur í ráðstefnunni voru trúnaðarmenn á sínum vinnustöðum. Margir þeirra eru í fullu launuðu starfi sem trúnaðarmenn hjá stærri einkareknum ræstingafyrirtækjum svo sem ISS og SOL. Einnig átti ræstingafólk sem er beinráðið hjá ríki og sveitarfélögum sína fulltrúa á ráðstefnunni, en í Noregi hefur hið opinbera á síðustu árum snúið af braut einkavæðingar í stórum ræstingaverkum, til að mynda hjá hernum, og innvistað þeim í staðinn.


Fundarstjóri ráðstefnunnar var Viðar Þorsteinsson fræðslu- og félagsmálastjóri hjá Eflingu, en hann gegnir formennsku í ræstingahópi SUN. Aðildarfélög að ræstingahópnum auk Eflingar eru Havnar Arbeiðskvinnufelag í Færeyjum, 3F í Danmörku, PAM í Finnlandi og Fastighets í Svíþjóð sem og þrjú stéttarfélög í Noregi: NAF, NTL og Fagforbundet. Öll félögin nema 3F sendu fulltrúa á ráðstefnuna.



Geiraráðstefnur SUN eru vanalega haldnar á tveggja ára fresti og var síðasta ræstingaráðstefnan haldin í Visby á Gotlandi í Svíþjóð. Þess á milli er reglulega fundað í stjórn ræstingahóps SUN og er eitt meginumræðuefnið iðulega staða ræstingafólks í aðildarfélögunum og þróun samfélags og stjórnmála í hverju landi.

Efling actively involved in Nordic cooperation among cleaning workers

Representatives from Efling took part in a joint Nordic conference and union representative training programme for cleaning workers in Finland in early September. The conference was organised by SUN, an alliance of Nordic trade unions that Efling has been a member of since 2024. It brought together around 30 union representatives and other trade union delegates from the Faroe Islands, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. The conference programme spanned two full days and was held at Gustavelund, a hotel by Lake Tuusula, just north of Helsinki. The conference opened on the afternoon of Friday, 4 September. The first full day, Saturday, 5 September, was devoted to training and education on workplace organising, led by Kjetil Larsen from the Norwegian trade union Fellesforbundet. The second full day began with a presentation of an in-depth comparative study of collective agreements for cleaning workers across the Nordic countries. Efling was responsible for carrying out the study, and Sunna Björg Gunnarsdóttir from Efling presented the findings, which sparked lively discussion. The day concluded with a presentation by Ewa Edström from the Swedish trade union Fastighets on working conditions in the cleaning sector, followed by questions and discussion. The programme also included regular opportunities for team-building and social activities, such as rowing on Lake Tuusula, games and shared meals. The conference concluded on the morning of Monday, 7 September, with a participant survey and closing remarks. Most of those attending the conference were union representatives at their workplaces. Many work full-time as paid union representatives for large private cleaning companies such as ISS and SOL. Cleaning workers employed directly by public authorities and municipalities were also represented. In recent years, the Norwegian public sector has reversed the outsourcing of several major cleaning contracts, including cleaning services for the armed forces, and brought the work back in-house. The conference was chaired by Viðar Þorsteinsson, Efling’s Director of Education and Organising, who also chairs SUN’s cleaning sector group. In addition to Efling, the group includes Havnar Arbeiðskvinnufelag in the Faroe Islands, 3F in Denmark, PAM in Finland and Fastighets in Sweden, as well as three Norwegian trade unions: NAF, NTL and Fagforbundet. All member unions except 3F sent representatives to the conference.  SUN’s sector conferences are generally held every two years. The previous cleaning sector conference took place in Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland. Between conferences, the board of SUN’s cleaning sector group meets regularly. Its discussions often focus on the situation of cleaning workers in the member unions, as well as social and political developments in each country.
