Last Monday, May 4, 30 Eflingmembers from Vocational Training III in kitchen and catering services, from the College in Kópavogur (MK). The courses have been held for about two years in cooperation Efling and the school, and many Eflingmembers have attended, gained knowledge and laid the foundation for further studies.

A special touch added to the graduation was that the students themselves took care of the food that was served. They prepared the main course and dessert from their countries of origin, and offered guests a variety of splendid dishes.

Efling and MK have offered three vocational courses of this type and most of the students who graduated have now completed all three courses. Most of them did this alongside full‑time work and a conventional family life, which speaks to the dedication behind the group. The courses have proven to be many people's first step in further education and five students from this graduating cohort have already enrolled in continued assessment studies.

The vocational courses are intended for staff who work in cooking or service in kitchens and canteens. The training is fully funded by Efling. The courses include both practical and theoretical teaching that is useful in work and the vocational course 3 places special emphasis on menu planning, cooking for vegans and people with allergies and intolerances.

The courses are taught in Icelandic with strong Icelandic support, where the vocabulary related to the subject matter is covered. This arrangement has proven effective, both to strengthen vocabulary in everyday life and to give participants the opportunity to practice Icelandic in connection with real work situations.

Efling sincerely wishes its staff heartfelt congratulations on the achievement.
