Efling trade union holds its first Efling assembly on the 26th and 27th of February in Austurbæjarbíó. The assembly is a new and powerful platform where members come together to shape policy and strengthen the struggle for better conditions and rights of wage earners.


Over 200 Efling unions, from roughly 30 different countries of origin, take part in the congress. They reflect that diverse group of wage earners that Efling organize, and play a key role in shaping a common vision and the union's demands.


The purpose of the assembly is to strengthen the voice of Efling, deepen the debate on urgent issues and increase the activity of members in the work of the union. The resolutions of the assembly will set a clear policy in the struggle issues of Efling in the coming months, based on the work of the confidentiality council and the experience of members in the labour market.


The programme spans two days and consists of lectures, discussions and workshops where delegates work methodically on proposals and resolutions. Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chair of Efling, delivers the opening address.


Among the speakers are Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, and Jónas Atli Gunnarsson, chief economist of the Housing and Infrastructure Agency. Foreign guests also address the struggle of wage earners on the international stage, including Lars Christian Fjeldstad from the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions LO and Anna Bacia, president of the union of care workers in Poland.

Efling Union is calling for nominations for delegates to the 47th Congress of the Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ), which will take place from 14–16 October. The Congress will be held at Hilton Reykjavík, Suðurlandsbraut 2, and will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 14 October. Efling has 56 delegate seats at the Congress. Full members of Efling may nominate themselves, and the union is now inviting nominations. Nominations can be submitted through the electronic form provided here and must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 31 August. Nominations for the ASÍ Congress 2026 Delegates will receive a daily allowance for the three days of the Congress. The allowance is ISK 18,100 per day, in accordance with the decision of the Travel Expenses Committee of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. Efling will reimburse delegates who lose wages as a result of attending the Congress, provided they submit supporting documentation to the union’s office. The ASÍ Congress is the Confederation's highest decision-making body. The Congress elects the President and Central Executive Committee, and considers amendments to the Confederation’s statutes as well as resolutions on its policies.
